Kettles & Tanks
Zinc Kettle Galvanizing
The kettle is where the actual galvanizing happens, so it’s arguably the single most important piece of equipment in the entire plant. A zinc kettle holds molten zinc at a controlled temperature and needs to be sized, built, and maintained correctly get any of that wrong and you’re looking at coating defects, wasted zinc, or a kettle that fails well before it should. Whether it’s feeding a general galvanizing line, a pipe system, or a spin galvanizing setup, the kettle has to match what’s actually running through it.
Pre-Treatment Tanks
Proper bonding of zinc cannot take place on an unclean or oxidized surface; this is why there is a need for pre-treatment in the first place. Everything has to go through a series of pre-treatment tanks before being placed into the kettle, where the zinc is applied after the oil, mill scale, and rust have been removed from the metal and the surface is ready for the formation of metallurgical bonding between zinc and the base material.
Quench & Passivation Tanks
After the part is removed from the zinc kettle, it is still covered in molten zinc and must be cooled in a controlled manner – this is the purpose of the quenching and passivation tanks. Quenching allows for rapid and even cooling of the part just galvanized, whereas the passivation provides a protective layer that will keep the formation of the white rust during the initial days after galvanizing when the natural weathering process of the zinc coating has not yet occurred.
Storage Tanks (HDPE & Vertical)
A galvanizing line runs on a steady supply of acids, chemicals, and water, and none of that works without proper storage. HDPE and vertical storage tanks hold the pickling acid, flux solution, and other process chemicals that feed the pre-treatment line, keeping supply consistent so tanks along the production line don’t run low mid-shift. HDPE is chosen for its resistance to acid and chemical corrosion that would eventually erode the regular steel tank, and vertical tanks make good use of the limited floor area in the factory.
